Restaurant Review: Mehfil Fine Indian Dining

Sigh... oh Mehfil... I am torn... on one hand you are the Indian restaurant which single handed hooked me on Indian food (American style... do I need to qualify this? ... any food from another country made in America can no way be authentic... it is Americanized... pity, huh?) Anyway... I love the food from Mehfil...

But sadly, I am severely disappointed in the service... One of the last times I went there to pick up take-out food, I made sure to be there before 6pm, so that I could get the Happy Hour discount. For the portion sizes their regular prices are somewhat high--thus Happy Hour is in order.

I ordered at 5:45 and was told it would take 15 minutes to prepare... I asked if I should pay now, and was told no, it's okay, pay when I pick up the food. I left to wander around the nearby stores and returned 15 minutes later... and still had to wait 10 more minutes, even though the restaurant, the entire time, had been completely empty... And then when the server finally rang up my take out order, after almost half an hour, he charged me the full regular prices!

Why is it so expensive? I asked. It's after 6pm and the Happy Hour the server replied. What! I told him I came and ordered well before 6pm to receive the Happy Hour discount. And if I had paid when I order, like I had originally asked, I would have been given the discount. It only because I was paying now, at the end of the transaction, instead of the beginning that they were trying to charge me the full price.

And I was having none of it. I told them they should honor their happy hour prices because I had come in and ordered before happy hour was over and when I returned for my food, when they said it would be ready, it was not ready, and because of them the food was not prepared for me until after Happy Hour had ended. They honored the happy hour prices...

By the next time I stopped into the restaurant to order food, I found that they had completely discontinued their happy hour, and their restaurant was still ghost town empty.
